In our research group we work on organic electronic devices. Organic electronics have already reached commercialization to some extent, e.g. as organic light emitting diodes in displays for mobile phones, car-radios or TV-screens. The properties of organic semiconductors, which are the basic fundament of organic electronics, are not fully understood yet, that’s why we need both fundamental and applied research, for further improvements in this field. In addition to the research on organic photovoltaics we work on organic light emitting diodes, organic thin film transistors and organic switches, which can be used as implants for example.
An insight in our work can be obtained by the following video. It shows a view on an organic thin film containing a blend of poly (3-hexylthiophene) and phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester which was heated during the shoot. This leads to the formation of crystalline structures, which become visible under a light microscopy.
